1st Canadian Women In The Wind Chapter ~Est. 1988

In the late 1980's, Lin Litousky was tired of being one of the few female motorcyclists on rides and other events. She wanted to be able to share the thrill of biking with other women and to experience the same camaraderie as the male riders. She was, therefore, thrilled to see an advertisement in the Canadian Biker magazine for a Ladies Only Motorcycle Club.  She contacted the women and on June 18, 1988, the Edmonton Chapter of Women In The Wind had their first ride. Since that time the chapter has seen some ups and downs in membership but whether up or down the direction has always been forward.

The Women in the Wind (WITW) purpose is to:

  • educate our members in motorcycle safety and maintenance
  • unite women motorcyclists with friends of common interest, and
  • promote a positive image to the public of women on motorcycles.

We meet once a month for meetings, have scheduled chapter events and participating in a number of charity events like the Edmonton Toy Run

Members -- requirements are being female and most important, having an interest in "motorcycling" and a motorcycle.

Benefits -- of being a member are many. These include:

  • The camaraderie, encouragement and support of other women riders,
  • A monthly chapter newsletter and a bimonthly national newsletter.
  • A summer and a winter National event hosted by different chapters held every year.
  • Being part of an international organization with over 1000 members.
  • Being part of a safe mileage riding contest
  • Wearing WITW logo gear and chapter members can wear the back patch.

Best of all, many new friendships are formed.
